Debating the Fate of the Republic: Crisis, Conspiracy, and the Struggle for Power

The Roman Senate agenda places delegates in the sandals of patricians and senators during one of the most turbulent periods of the Republic, where loyalty, ambition, and the very soul of Rome hang in the balance.

About the Committee

The Roman Senate was the venerable governing body of the Roman Republic, comprising the elite of Roman society who advised magistrates, controlled state finances, and directed foreign policy. Its authority was rooted in tradition, prestige, and the collective wisdom of Rome's greatest families.

At VGSMUN'26, the Senate reconvenes at a crossroads of history. The Republic faces existential threats from within and beyond its borders. Ambitious generals command personal armies, populist tribunes challenge aristocratic privilege, and the delicate balance of the constitution trembles. Delegates must decide whether to preserve the old order or embrace the new forces reshaping the Roman world.

Scope of Discussion: Crisis management, legislative reform, military command, class conflict, and the preservation of republican institutions.
